The Titanic – A brief Overview

The Titanic, one of the most beautiful vessels ever constructed, all started in a Port in Belfast in which at the time was in Ireland. Before going how it was designed, constructed and it’s not so amazing end and the legacy it had, first we should talk about why the ship was actually made.

The Ship was made because Bruce Ismay, the CEO for the White Line and a very wealthy man (who was battling with the Cunard who had the Mauritania and the Lusitania), wanted something that would blow his competitors out of the question and in order to could show off. He decided to build a Ship called the Titanic and went to William Pirrie of Harlem and Wolff to build it. This ship was also designed to be used for who were immigrants who wanted to start a new life in America (the country of the free), and some millionaires looking for a luxurious travel.

The design started 5 years before the Titanic set sail and it was hand-drawn on Linen. Every single line and angle was measured perfectly, every single room was labelled, every single detail was precise. It was very hard to do for Thomas Andrew (the chief designer) and his team with no modern-day equipment to make the blue prints. This ship was so big it needed a special dock to be constructed.

After the designs was completed, it was the start of the construction. The ship took  15,000 people as workers and it took a period of 26 months to complete. During this time multiple people got injured but sadly 8 people died. However, at the end of the Construction. The ship would be 883 feet long and it could carry 3, 500 passengers and Crew. It was made by layers upon layers of steel, which people are now questioning if it was strong enough. She weighed 67,000 thousand tonnes, the heaviest ship in the world at the time. One Fault of the ship was that one out of her four funnels were fake. The ship was ready to be transported to the Port of Southampton

After being transported from Belfast the Ship took off from Southampton on the 3rd of April 1912 on course to New York. On the 12th day of the Voyage, while everyone was sleeping, the hull (A very hard place for something to beak into) of the ship smashed into an Iceberg. This was a tragic event is still remembered and talk about today. It’s not far to say this was one of the most well-known Ship accidents in the world.

Now the’ Unsinkable Ship’ is under the Atlantic Ocean and has a legacy to behold even if it had to come with consequences. However, unfortunately the White Star Line had bad luck with the Titanic’s sister ships and was forced to merge with the Red Star Line. The legacy it holds is incomparable to any other maritime disaster and even maybe any other tragedy not including the sea!
