On the 7th of March (In the US) Meghan Markle and Harry Windsor, both Formerly of the Royal family, ‘opened up’ on how life in the English Royal Family was. This did not portray the Royals in a particularly good light and outraged the British Public. I will be going over the struggles Meghan and Harry faced.
Meghan and Harry married in 2018 and had a child shortly after and were loved by the British public. But then, in a move so sudden, Meghan and Harry left the Royal Family. Of course this was on front pages of the News and a fierce wave of insults were thrown to the couple by people. However, most people were upset but respected this decision and still liked the Couple.
The couple shortly after moved to the USA and was quite quiet for a few months. Until CBS (American Broadcasting Company) announced they would release an exclusive interview with the couple.
In the Interview conducted by Oprah Winfrey, Meghan talked about the Racism she faced during her short time in the Royal Family. Many people didn’t like Harry marrying a black woman and people didn’t like the thought that a Royal Family member would be Darker Skinned. This came to the point were people in the Royal Family were asking and hoping Archie, their baby, was white which he ended up being. This claim was backed up by some notable black community-members saying ‘I understand what Meghan is saying because I have experienced it’.
Harry before this talked about the toll it took on his Mental health to be a member of the Royal Family. He said that he had to live up to so many standards and he had to be Perfect all the time.
In this interview it was Meghan’s turn to talk about her Mental Health and she told Oprah it led her to dark and suicidal thoughts.
You would think Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, would support her but no! She actually sided with the Royal Family saying he felt saddened by these ‘betrayal’ accusations. He said he will keep speaking to the Media until Meghan, who has given him the silent treatment, will talk to him again.
The Queen’s Spokesperson came out and said this:
All the public can do is watch and see watch the ramifications for who will be. This could mean that the Royal Family will have a wave of criticism sent for them or the opposite, but whatever the ending it will definitely be Controversial. It could also be the end for Australia in the Commonwealth as he said to ABC “After the end of the Queen’s reign, that is the time for us to say – OK, we’ve passed that watershed and do we really want to have whoever happens to be head of state, the king or queen of the UK, automatically our head of state?”. This could create a domino effect causing other countries to leave the Commonwealth
