As International Women’s Day was Yesterday on the 8th of March, to honour this event, we are going to go over 5 Influential Women from 1900.

1. Rosa Parks
A name everyone knows now, but it all started with a bus believe it or not. On a Normal day Rosa went on a full bus and sat at the end of the Black section of the Bus. The Bus was full and a white man came on. By law Rosa was required to stand up or leave the Bus. Rosa, however, decided to stay in the Street tired of the Discrimination. She did get arrested but this sparked protests with the black-community living in America and this was called the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Rosa after being asked if she was just tired in an Interview responded by saying ‘No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in ‘Edgbaston High School for Girls’ starting in 2013 and ending in 2017.
2. Valentina Tereshkova
Valentina Tereshkova is a Russian Engineer now currently aged 84. She was the first ever woman in Space, she went on a Russian Mission during the Cold-War called Vostok 6 and she was sent up alone! She was also the youngest person to have gone up to Space. The mission took at relatively short 3 days but nevertheless an amazing enough feat to have an Order of Lenin(Click to see) which isn’t awarded any more and also a Order of Red Banner of Labour (Click to see) which isn’t awarded any more either!
3. Malala Yousafzai
Despite being so young Malala has done so much during her life. One day she took a bus to school with her friends like every other day. However, then Malala and her friends got shot and Malala barely survived. She was shot by the Taliban (Terrorist group) because of her protests. Malala was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital In Birmingham were she was put in a Coma, she decided to stay in Birmingham for the rest of her Secondary School life in.
4. Emilia Earhart
Emilia Earhart was the first Woman to fly a plane and challenged the boundaries in Aviation and who can fly what. However, one day she started her plane to fly but the plane was never found and it is still one of the weirdest Air disappearances. He was flying from Howland Island to Lae in New Guinea.
5. Marie Curie
Marie Curie was born on the 7th November 1867. She was educated at the University of Paris after moving from Warsaw. Her parents were Polish and French. She won a Nobel prize a Davy Medal and much, much more. Marie is better known for recognising what Radiation was. Marie died by Aplastic Anemia which is caused by exposure to Radiation on the 4th July 1934.
